Biography

Ludwig STUBBENDORF

Cavalry officer Ludwig Stubbendorff was a three-day event rider winning both the gold medal with the German team at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, and the individual gold medal. In 1930 Stubbendorff was delegated to the Cavalry School in Hannover. He was the only German rider from 1936 who was not promoted after the Games.

Stubbendorff and his Olympic horse, Nurmi, fought with the First Cavalry Brigade which invaded Poland as an independent unit under Third Army in World War II. Both Stubbendorff and Nurmi died during the invasion in 1941.
