In 1920, Louis Harant was a first lieutenant in the 23rd Infantry Regiment of the US Army stationed in Washington, DC. In World War I, he was stationed in France. He also served in the Philippines in World War II and Korea and was buried at Arlington National Cemetery. While in the Army, Harant coached several shooting teams. Though he finished well back in the individual rapid-fire pistol event, he had the top score for the Americans in the team event.
