Lorenzo Wright of Wayne State set a career best in the long jump of 25-11 (7.90) early in 1948, but he could not reproduce this form at the Olympics and finished out of the medals in fourth place. He came onto the relay team as a substitute for Ed Conwell who was suffering from asthma and won the medal he had missed in his specialty event. After earning a master's in education from Wayne State, he became supervisor of athletics for Detroit public schools. In 1972 he was stabbed to death in his home during a quarrel with his wife about a possible separation. In 1973 he was posthumously inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame.
Personal Bests: 100 – 10.5 (1947); LJ – 7.90 (1948).
