Leslie MARX

Leslie Marx fenced épée at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. In 1995 she had won gold medals in both individual and team épée at the Pan American Games. Marx attended Duke University where she learned to fence and eventually starred on the fencing team, graduating with a degree in mathematics as the valedictorian of her class. After leaving Duke, the former Leslie McFarland married Mike Marx, a four-time US fencing Olympian, and went to Northwestern where she earned an MBA degree and a PhD in economics.

After finishing her studies, Leslie Marx became a professor of economics at the Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester. She returned to Duke in 2002, where she became the Robert A. Bandeen Professor of Economics at the Fuqua School of Business. Her research interests include industrial organization, game theory, and anti-trust economics. She also served as an assistant coach with the Duke fencing team. Marx continued to compete and in 2017 won the Veteran World Championship for ages 50-59.
