Biography

At three Olympic Games, 1908, 1912 and 1920, Léon Johnson participated in 20 events, winning two silver and one bronze medal. In Paris in 1924 he was a member of the free rifle team but did not compete. Between 1908 and 1924 Johnson won nine medals at the World Championships in free rifle and military rifle events, seven with the team and two individually. He was a gunsmith by profession. From 1919-28 Johnson served as Mayor of Montesson, a small town in the Yvelines Département, west of Paris, where a street was later named for him.
