Biography

Lenore Kight, and from 1936, Mrs. Lenore Wingard, won 23 AAU titles at distances ranging from 100 yards to one mile. Competing for the Carnegie Library Club of Homestead, Pennsylvania, she set a total of seven world and 24 U.S. records before turning pro in 1937. Her biggest professional victory came that same year when she won the "marathon" at the Toronto Canadian Exhibition. For many years she was a swimming instructor and set age-group records up to age 75. She was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1981.
