Biography

Lars Hindmar developed his racewalking career during World War II and medalled at several national championships, but did not start winning at these events until after the end of the conflict. After failing to qualify for the 1948 London Olympics, he represented Sweden in the 10 km and 20 km walks in 1952 and 1956 respectively, but was disqualified from both events. After failing to qualify for the 50 km walk at the 1960 Rome Olympics, he retired from active competition. He maintained his interest in sport, however, by being involved heavily in the sports museum of Gothenburg. By career, he was a businessman and also wrote a book on Olympic history.

Personal Bests: 10kmW – 43:33 (1956); 20kmW – 1-30:38 (1956).
