Biography

Kurt Klühspies was a member of the West German handball team that lost the match for the bronze medal 21-18 against Poland after extra time at the 1976 Montréal Olympics. He earned 104 international caps scoring 253 goals. In 1978 he won the World Championships with the West German national team.

Domestically, Klühspies played with TV Großwallstadt, helping them to win West German titles in 1978-81 and 1984, adding West German Cups in 1980 and 1984. In 1980 TV Großwallstadt also earned the Supercup. In 1979 and 1980 he won the EHF Champions Cup with Großwallstadt.

By profession, Klühspies trained as an industrial supervisor but later worked as a key account manager with adidas. He was also engaged with his home club TV Großwallstadt in several positions over the years, for brief stints as a coach.
