Long-distance runner Klaus Porbadnik, married to middle-distance runner Anneliese Kloas, came in 17th at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics for the mixed German team. He also started in the marathon race but retired. In East Germany he won four national titles, adding five other podiums. In 1945 the educated coppersmith was resettled from East Prussia to Halberstadt.
