Biography

American painter Kenneth Miller studied at the Art Students League in New York and the New York School of Art, where he later taught from 1911-51. He then became an influential teacher of artistic theory and technical methods.

Miller used underpainting and glazing techniques from the old masters, which he employed in painting contemporary scenes. He himself had rejected all forms of modernism and mainly painted nude or semi-nude figures against blurry backgrounds, for romantic reasons. He was also commonly known for painting women in shopping scenes.
