Biography

Kate Fonshell was a distance runner from Villanova who won the 1996 Olympic Trials in the 10,000 metres in somewhat of an upset. Fonshell’s best NCAA placement had been seventh in the 1992 indoor 3,000. She did earn All-American honors six times and helped Villanova to two NCAA team cross-country titles. She had only previously placed at the USA meeting 1993 when she finished third in the 5K. Fonshell had started out as a field hockey player at Penncrest High School in Media, Pennsylvania, but soon turned to running. Fonshell later became a clinical psychologist, specializing in sports psychology.

Personal Best: 10000 – 32:18.45 (1996).
