Biography

Austrian sculptor Karl Stemolak received an Honorable Mention at the 1936 Art Competitions in Berlin for his work Discus Thrower When Throwing Out in the category Sculpturing, Statues. He studied in Vienna (Wien) at the Academy of Fine Arts. He mainly produced male and female figures, standing alone and showing initially the quietness and beauty of ancient sculptures.

Stemolak was one of the few sculptors who stood constantly in dialogue with his colleagues and their styles were also recovered in his own works. He was the president of the Vienna Secession from 1946-47 and organized the first exhibition after World War II.
