German gymnast Karl Jordan competed at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, finishing fourth in the team all-around event. He also finished fourth in the free system team all-around. The teams represented the Allgemeiner Akademischer Turnerbund Leipzig. Jordan was named professor of zoology, with a sub-specialty in entomology, at the Technical University of Dresden in 1949, retiring in 1957. Six species of the order of heteroptera (bugs) bear his name.
