Biography

K. Torsten KUMFELDT

Torsten Kumfeldt was the goalkeeper of the Swedish Olympic teams, winning a bronze medal in 1908, silver in 1912, and another bronze in 1920. With Stockholm KK he won seven national titles. From 1910-12 Kumfeldt was secretary of the Swedish Swimming Federation. In 1912 he was elected to the board of the Swedish Life Saving Society and for 26 years was a driving force behind the Youth Autumn Swimming Competitions. He was also a member of the building committee of the Swimming Federation for the 1912 Olympics, which gave personal financial guarantees to facilitate the building of a larger grandstand.

Kumfeldt studied in the German town of Darmstadt and worked in an architectural office. He later followed his father in holding important positions in the stone cutting industry. Torsten Kumfeldt was made a Knight of the Vasa Order, and was a member of the Coldinu Order and the Freemasons.
