Biography

John Richard WILSON

Dick Wilson attended the University of Toledo where he won three Mid-American Conference titles in 1959-1961. He was also NCAA runner-up in those years, and later won three AAU titles. He enrolled at Toledo after serving in the Army, where he qualified for the 1956 U.S. Olympic team, coached by Joe Scalzo, coach at Toledo. In addition to his three Olympic appearances, he was the gold medalist at 52 kg at the 1959 Pan American Games. After receiving his bachelor's and masters' degrees at Toledo, Wilson taught and coached at Rogers High School, and later became UT's wrestling coach from 1967-1974. He then returned to public schools and spent his career as an administrator until his retirement in 1993. Wilson was elected to the Varsity T Athletic Hall of Fame and the Pennsylvania Wrestling Hall of Fame.
