Biography

After setting a world record of 54.2 for the 440 yard hurdles in April 1920 and winning the Western Olympic Trials, John Norton was the favorite. But he finished second to Frank Loomis at the Final Trials in July. The following month he again placed second to Loomis in the Olympic final. Norton had attended Stanford and later represented the Olympic Club of San Francisco. Norton became a professor at Columbia University and wrote several books on education.
