John Keller was the son of minor league baseball pitcher and he used the family’s athletic talents to play football as a tight end at the University of North Carolina. Keller started every game at tight end his last three years, ending with 30 receptions, as he was primarily used as a blocker. He was an Academic All-ACC in 1987 and 1988.
Keller joined the USA National Handball team in 1989 and played with it through the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. He also did some refereeing of handball matches. Keller worked in health care consulting, initially for Ernst and Young.
