Biography

John Ross got his first taste of international rowing in the Canadian eight at the 1966 World Championships before competing at 1967 Pan American Games in the now-discontinued Men's Coxed Fours event (alongside Neil Campbell and the non-Olympians Ray Guy and Geoffrey Wright), but failed to win a medal on either occasion.. He got his next chance at the 1968 Summer Olympics, this time as a member of the coxed eight, where he finished in ninth place out of twelve squads. He later moved to Sonoma, California and donated his spare time to nonprofit organizations as a musician and an electrician until his death in August 2009, which occurred just over a month after that of his Olympic teammate John McIntyre. He was later honored by a resolution adopted by the Sonoma City Council.
