Biography

Jeannette Vogelbacher took up gymnastics during World War II and began to gain attention on the national scene after the conflict, winning French championships in 1948, 1949, and 1950. She competed at two editions of the Olympics, beginning in 1948, where she came in 10th out of 11 nations as part of the French women’s team. In 1952 the country came 12th in the team all-around and 11th in the team portable apparatus. Individually, her best finish that year was joint-31st (with Licia Macchini of Italy and Hanna Grages of Germany) in the uneven bars.

Vogelbacher had more luck with the French team at the 1950 World Championships, where she took silver in the team all-around. She was married to Armand Solbach, 18 years her senior, who represented France in gymnastics at the 1928 and 1936 Olympics. By career, she taught and coached gymnastics.
