Biography

Jean Gachet was amateur champion of France in 1919-20 but lost in the 1920 Olympic final to his countryman, Paul Fritsch, who had lost the 1920 French title to Gachet. Gachet turned professional after the Olympics, fighting 40 times, with 30 victories, but never won a major title. He later became a boxing trainer and referee, and directed his own gym in Saint-Étienne. He also started a business as an undertaker. Gachet died two days before the Opening Ceremony of the 1968 Grenoble Winter Olympics.
