Biography

Jim Ochowicz rode the team pursuit at the 1972 Olympics for the Wolverine Schwinn team. He soon turned from racing to the business of cycling. In 1981 he founded the 7-Eleven cycling team, the first true professional team in the United States. This later became the Motorola team, and Ochowicz managed both teams through 1995. In 1997 Och, as he was called, was inducted into the US Bicycling Hall of Fame as a contributor. He later started the BMC Racing Team in 2007, and Och coached the US road team at the 2000, 2004, and 2008 Olympics. Ochowicz served as President of USA Cycling Board of Directors from 2002-06. He married Sheila Young, US Olympic champion speedskater. Their daughter, Elli Ochowicz, also speed skated at the Olympics.
