Jamal fled his home in Darfur as a teenager, separating from his mother and siblings. He eventually settled in Israel, where he was granted refugee status.
He found a new home in Alley Runners Club, a sports club in Tel Aviv that provides opportunities for underprivileged athletes. This helped him get back on his feet and on the track. Jamal competed in the 5000m at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 in the great National Stadium, where he claimed a personal best of 13’42’98. Today, Jamal lives with his host family in Tel Aviv. He was a member of the Refugee Olympic Team at the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
