Biography

Latvian Inta Kļimoviča took up athletics in 1969 when she was already 18-years-old. One of the leading Soviet female long sprinters in the mid-70s, she won Olympic 4x400 relay bronze in 1976. She won a 4x2 lap relay gold at the 1975 European Indoors, adding individual international medals with a 400 silver at the 1975 Universiade, and 400 bronzes at the 1975 and 1976 European Indoors. She set one world record during her career, when she was with the Soviet 4x440 yards relay team that clocked 3:29.06 at College Park, Maryland. Kļimoviča won the Soviet 4x400 relay title in 1975; 400 silver in 1974 and bronze in 1975; and a 4x400 relay silver in 1977. She was a 14-time Latvian SSR champion between 1973-81. Kļimoviča worked as an athletics coach in Latvia after finishing her sports career.
