Ingrid Steen was part of the Norwegian team that surprisingly won a bronze medal in the 1986 World Championship in the Netherlands. This would turn out to be the start of Norwegian handball success. In addition to Steen’s two silver medals at the Olympics, she played in the 1994 European Championship in Germany, winning the bronze medal. Steen played back and scored 584 goals in 160 appearances for Norway. She played for Sverresborg, winning the national championship (cup) in 1983 and 1984 and the national league in 1986. She later played for Vestar, winning the league in 1989. She also played for Astor, Byåsen, Bækkelaget, Refstad-Veitvet, Stabæk and Trøgstad, where she also was the trainer.
Her brother Christian Steen played football at national level, and her sister Pia was also a national level handball player.
