Biography

Son of 1960 and 1964 Olympic hammer thrower Yury Nikulin, Igor Nikulin was one of the world’s top hammer throwers in the 1980s. He had a fierce competition with Jüri Tamm for the final spot on the Soviet team behind Yuriy Siedykh and Sergey Litvinov at major internationals. Because of the competition from his teammates, he never won a major international, but won silvers at the 1983 European Championships, 1984 Friendship Games, and the 1992 World Cup, adding bronzes at the 1992 Olympics, 1986 and 1990 Europeans, 1981 and 1985 Universiade, and the 1990 Goodwill Games. Nikulin won Soviet titles in 1981-82 and 1984 and the 1994 Russian title.

Personal Best: HT – 84.48 (1990).
