Biography

Hugh Wiley attended the University of Maryland. He competed at the 1956 and 1960 Olympics in show jumping. Wiley won two gold medals at the 1959 Pan American Games, in individual and team jumping. In the late 1950s, he bought a horse, Nautical (originally named Pelo de Oro), who became famous and was ridden by several members of the US Equestrian Team as a jumper. A movie was made about him by Disney Pictures, entitled “The Horse with the Flying Tail.” Wiley worked as an engineer.
