Biography

Discus thrower Hermann Hänchen was eliminated in the qualifying round of the 1928 Olympic Games at Amsterdam. This was his only appearance at a major international competition, although he took part in seven international dual matches. From 1924-32 he collected six German titles in different discus disciplines, also adding six runners-up in shot put and discus throw, and a further three third places. In 1924 Hänchen established a European record in the shot put with 13.24 metres. By profession Hänchen was a policeman in Berlin.
