Biography

Helena Rakoczy starred at the 1950 World Championships in Basel, winning the individual all-around and three apparatus gold medals on the vault, beam, and floor, adding a bronze medal on the uneven bars. She disappointed at the 1952 Olympics placing only 43rd in the all-around, and not approaching a medal on any apparatus. In 1954 she won two more World medals, bronzes in both all-around and uneven bars. She improved her Olympic performance in 1956, but still did not win an individual medal, although she helped Poland to a team bronze in the portable apparatus event. Rakoczy was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2004.
