Biography

While at Auburn, Harvey Glance scored a sprint double at the 1976 NCAA and then took the 100 m at the Final Trials. In the Olympic 100 m he was the first American home (in fourth place) as, for the first time since 1928, the U.S. failed to medal in the short sprint. Glance won the NCAA 100 m again in 1977 and placed third in 1978 and 1979. In 1979 he won silver in 100 m at the Pan American Games and in 1980 he again qualified for the Olympic team but, of course, did not compete. Glance was a fine relay runner and, apart from his Olympic gold medal, was on the 1979 (with Steve Riddick and the non-Olympians Mike Roberson and Cliff Wiley) and 1987 team (with Lee McNeill, Carl Lewis, and the non-Olympian Lee McRae) that won the Pan American Games 4×100 relay.

Personal Bests: 100y – 9.4 (1975); 100 – 10.05 (1985); 200 – 20.25 (1983); LJ – 25-10 (7.87) (1977).
