Biography

From 1910 to 1917, Harry Hebner held all the world backstroke records. He won 35 AAU titles in freestyle and backstroke events, including the 150y backstroke for seven straight years from 1910. Hebner was also a fine water polo player and was a member of the Illinois AC team which won the AAU title seven times between 1914 and 1924. He made a third Olympic appearance in 1920 as a member of the water polo team and was the standard bearer for the U.S. team at the Antwerp opening ceremonies.
