Biography

Danish painter Harald Hansen studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in København (København), and was well known for his marine and ship paintings. His mountain landscapes were mostly characterized by a modified expressionistic style in modernistic direction. He also painted javelin throwers, riders, acrobats, and pole jumpers. In the mid-1920s he also designed decorations for theatres and public buildings. In his later years Hansen became a renowned portrait painter for the royal family. In 1934, he was awarded the Eckersberg-Medal. His second wife was ethnographer and painter Henny Harald Hansen.
