Hans-Ulrich Graßhoff was an avid track and field athlete (high jumper and pole vaulter), football and basketball player as well as a volleyball player. In 1961 he was one of the founders of the volleyball club USC Münster. He then became German Champion in volleyball from 1965-72 with this club. He took part in the World Championships in 1966 and 1970, and the 1971 European Championships. He earned 110 international caps. From 1973-75 Graßhoff was coach of VBC Paderborn, but he later worked as a biology and sports teacher.
