Biography

Hans Oldag qualified for the 1932 Olympic Marathon when he won the Cambridge-Salisbury (MD) qualifying race in May 1932. He competed for the Buffalo Oriole Club. Oldag was born in Germany where he worked as a blacksmith but emigrated to the USA after the 1927 track season. In 1930 Oldag led the Boston Marathon for about 10 miles before dropping back and finishing 57th. He was 15th at the Boston race in 1932. After the Los Angeles Olympics Oldag competed professionally, using the name Buffalo Boy. In his native Lübtheen, Germany, there is a Hans-Oldag-Sporthalle and a small museum devoted to his career.
