German marathon runner was the best German finisher in the 1928 Amsterdam Olympic marathon, placing 19th. Earlier that year he was runner-up at the German Marathon Championships, the reason he was chosen for the Games. By profession Stelges was trained as a bank clerk and later became General Director of an insurance company in Köln (Cologne).
