Sprinter Hannelore Raepke started at the 1960 Roma Olympics in both the 100 and 200, but was eliminated in the heats of both races. Two years earlier she won a silver medal in the 200 at the European Championships and placed sixth with the sprint relay. In 1962, she was fifth in the 100 and was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the 200. In East Germany, Raepke won national titles in the 100 in 1961-63, the 200 in 1961-64, and the 400 indoor in 1964.
