Biography

Gweneth Molony's family has been very active in several sports. Her father, Ted Molony was a know ice hockey player and managed several ice venues in Australia, including Melbourne's "Glaciarium". Her older sister, Patricia, was a figure skater, and she competed in the 1947 World Championships (placing 12th). Gweneth herself was also a figure skater, and competed in the 1952 World Championships and Olympics, becoming the first female Winter Olympian from Australia. She won four national titles, three in singles (1949-51) and one in pairs (with Adrian Swan). Molony later married a former ice hockey player, Geoffrey Henke, who would later serve as vice-president of the Australian NOC. Their daughter, Joanne, also became in an Olympian, in alpine skiing.
