Biography

Günther Ullerich played for Rot-Weiss Köln field hockey club and won 58 German international caps between 1951-61, including appearances at the 1952, 1956 and 1960 Olympics. At Helsinki in 1952 Germany lost to the Netherlands 0-1 in the quarter-final, but at Melbourne four years later, Ullerich won a surprise bronze medal after Germany beat Great Britain 3-1 in the third place match. At Rome in 1960 he was in the team that finished seventh. He had also been a member of the West German team that won the unofficial European Championships in 1954. Ullerich was an architect and owned a company producing air-conditioning materials.
