Biography

Gregory Alan BEST

Riding Gem Twist, Greg Best won two silver medals in show jumping at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. This came a year after winning silver in team jumping at the 1987 Pan American Games. Best was somewhat of an American riding prodigy, winning the 1984 North American Young Rider Championships, the 1985 USET Talent Derby, and the 1986 USET Foundation Lionel Guerran-Hermès Memorial Award. Best made the final four at the World Equestrian Games but a fall that shattered his shoulder in 1992 limited his career. He later became a jumping coach, moving to New Zealand, where he married Kim Zander, a New Zealand equestrienne, rode in the New Zealand League, and coached their national show jumpers. During his career, Best won six FEI World Cups. Although he became a New Zealand citizen, he later coached in the USA and Canada.
