Giorgio Bocchino was one of Italy's top foilists in the mid-1930s. At the 1936 Olympics, he won a bronze medal in the individiual foil, and contributed to the Italian team effort by winning 15 of his 20 bouts, including three in the important final pool match against France. At that time, Bocchino had already won four European Championship titles (one individually, three with the team). In the 1937 and 1938, he also claimed two team world titles, adding an individual silver medal.
