After winning a gold medal in 1908, George Nevinson had to decline an invitation to compete in the 1912 Games due to a leg injury. For the major part of his playing career he was a member of Salford SC, but he moved to Lancaster in 1913 when he obtained a job as joiner with the local Corporation. Nevinson was twice married and had seven daughters and three sons.
