Biography

Fred Lowe competed for the United States at three Olympics, 1968-76. He was an eight-time US Champion, winning in 1969-70, 1972-76, and 1981. He was the first American middleweight to clean & jerk over 400 lbs (182.5 kg). Lowe later went on to lift in masters competition. He became a strength and weightlifting coach and helped develop CrossFit Olympic Lifting Certification programs. Lowe attended the University of Illinois at Chicago, graduating in 1969, and also studied at Michigan State. He is a member of six Halls of Fame for weightlifting and strength sports. Lowe worked as a county sheriff in Michigan.
