Fred Spaulding was a Canadian canoeist who competed in singles at both distances at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. He was bronze medalist in the C1-1,000 at the 1991 Pan American Games. Spaulding competed for the Newport Aquatic Center. He took three firsts at the 1991 US team trials and won two golds at the 1989 US Olympic Festival.
Spaulding attended Long Beach State, where he earned a bachelor of fine arts degree. He later studied for an MFA at the University of Connecticut. Spaulding became an artist, first working in the ceramic department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and then specializing in glazed brick sculptures. Spaulding later moved to Texas where he worked as an art professor at several schools. He has had numerous exhibitions and showings throughout the United States and also in Mexico and Thailand. He continued to add to his education by studying iron casting at Kohler’s Arts in Industry program and Penlands School of Craft Winter Residency in Printmaking.
