Biography

Franz Pfnür became the first Olympic Champion in alpine skiing in 1936, winning the alpine combined just ahead of his teammate Gustav Lantschner. In 1934 he was runner-up in alpine combined and the downhill at the World Championship, winning the gold medal in the slalom. In 1937 Pfnür became a member of the SS and was employed in the Race and Settlement Main Office. During World War II he was seriously wounded in 1944 and was close to death for almost 15 months. After World War II he was never arraigned for his involvement in war crimes.
