West German wrestler Ewald Tauer was eliminated in the third round of the Greco-Roman bantamweight class at the 1960 Roma Olympics. In 1962 he won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Toledo, USA. In West Germany he claimed the national titles in 1960 (freestyle) and 1962 (Greco-Roman). He also earned five more podium finishes between 1960 and 1964.
