Biography

Gene Venzke won the IC4A mile in 1935-36 for Penn, and placed third in 1934 at the NCAA mile. He never won an outdoor AAU title, but three times won the indoor mile – 1932-33 and 1936. At the outdoor AAUs, he placed in the top five from 1930-40, with the exception of 1938, finishing second in 1931 and 1935. In 1936 he ran on the US 4×Mile relay team (with Chuck Hornbostel, Archie San Romani, and Glenn Cunningham) that broke the world record at a meet in London against a British Empire team. He also competed for the New York AC.

Personal Bests: 800 – 1:52.5 (1935); 1500 – 3:49.7 (1940); Mile – 4:10.0i (1932).
