Dale Thomas won nine US titles in collegiate, freestyle, and Greco-Roman wrestling. But he later became better known as a wrestling coach. He coached Oregon State from 1957 until his retirement in 1990, helping them win 22 Pac Eight titles. He was inducted into the US Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1990. He also was a wrestling official at the 1960 and 1964 Olympics and several World Championships. Thomas had the following finishes at major championships – 1954 World Championship: 87.0 kg. Freestyle (6th).
