Biography

Lien Gisolf was discovered as a talented high jumper by her gymnastics teacher at school. Encouraged to join an athletics club, she broke the Dutch national record in her first contest. Unwilling to go the Olympics at first, she was forced by her mother, telling her it would be a great way to watch the Games. She did go as one of the favourites, breaking the world record at a Dutch-Belgian country match before the Olympics. In Amsterdam, she finished second to Ethel Catherwood. Again the world record holder, she tried again at the 1932 Olympics, but finished fourth due to an injury sustained on the boat to the United States.

Personal Best: HJ – 1.623 (1932).
