Biography

Brit PETTERSEN

Britt Pettersen, born and raised in Lillehammer, came to national attention as a teenager. Aged 18, she was a member of the Norwegian bronze winning relay team at the 1980 Winter Olympics. Two years later she won gold with the Norwegian relay team at the 1982 World Championships in Oslo. At Sarajevo in 1984 she crowned her Olympic career with a relay gold and won an individual bronze over 10 km. Pettersen also competing at the 1988 Calgary Olympics, but with less success. She finished second in the overall World Cup in 1982 and 1983, placing third in 1985 and 1986. In total Pettersen won seven national championships.

Brit Pettersen studied economics and marketing, and later worked for an insurance company and for the sport firm Swix. She was a council member of the Norwegian Ski Federation and also a member of IOC’s Athlete Commission. She was responsible for cross-country skiing at the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics.
