Biography

Bret Hedican played three years of college hockey at St. Cloud State, and then, after the 1992 Winter Olympics, started his NHL career with the St. Louis Blues. A defenseman, Hedican later played for the Vancouver Canucks, Florida Panthers, and Carolina Hurricanes, before finishing his career in 2008-09 with the Anaheim Ducks. With the Canes he won a Stanley Cup ring in 2006. His NHL career saw him play in 1,039 games, with 55 goals and 294 points. He also played for the United States at the World Championships in 1997, 1999, and 2001, in addition to his two Winter Olympic appearances. At the 1992 Winter Olympics, Hedican met Kristi Yamaguchi, the figure skating gold medalist that year, and they later married, eventually settling in Raleigh, North Carolina. Hedican retired from a long hockey career in September 2009. He has now begun announcing games as an analyst for the San Jose Sharks.
