Biography

Barry McGuigan was an Irish hero throughout his career, even uniting the feuding countries of Ireland and Northern Ireland in their adulation. Living almost on the border, he fought for Northern Ireland at the 1978 Commonwealth Games. Turning professional in 1981, he won the British featherweight title in 1983 and in 1985 outpointed Eusebio Pedroza to win the world featherweight championship. He lost the title when was upset in 1986 by Steve Cruz and retired briefly. He then started fighting again, with less success, but retired in 1989. After his boxing career ended, he has spent some time as a television boxing commentator and acting in a few movies. Career Professional Record: W - 32 (KO 28); L – 3 (KO by 1); D - 0.
